We talk a lot about color around here, but it really can be inspirational. A room painted in yellow can leave you feeling sunny and pair of great pink shoes can make you smile. The same is true for inspiring memorable details for any event. Recently, we had the pleasure of hosting a baby shower for one of our coworkers. We used her nursery colors – night and chartreuse (gender neutral since the sex of the baby was going to be a surprise) – as the jumping off point for all of our decorations.
Our delightful banner was super simple to make using a roll of solid gift wrap (also great as a table cloth) with clouds cut from large sheets of cover weight paper. To make the letters we printed outlined letters onto sheets of 8.5 x 11 paper, then cut just inside the outline to create perfectly stenciled letters. Ribbons in different colors, widths and textures created a rain effect. The banner was such a hit one of the clouds now hangs in the baby’s nursery!
What’s a baby shower without baby shower games? One game that was a big crowd pleaser was Baby Jeopardy – categories included trivia on newborns and fun facts about the Mommy-to-be (What is Mommy-to-be’s strangest pregnancy food craving?), Daddy-to-be (What was Daddy-to-be’s favorite childhood cartoon?), and Baby (What are Baby’s nursery colors?).
The trivia board was created by layering square cards in two sizes – 6 ¼” square and 5 ½” square – and decorating with circle stickers. Using removable adhesive to adhere the top square allows you to peel off each game square to reveal the Jeopardy question. Game prizes were wrapped in coordinating tissue paper and ribbons.
Dressing up tiny sweet treats was as easy as using two 1 ¼” stickers on either side of a toothpick. Circle cards also made festive table decorations. When you’re setting a table display think about varying heights – our flowers, cake stands and cupcakes scattered on the tabletop provide three layers pleasing to the eye. Take a close look at the flower pot – we’ve mixed paper flowers with fresh daisies for an unexpected bouquet. And yes, the cupcakes were absolutely delicious!
Next time you’re throwing an event keep in mind how easy it can be to make a big impression with a simple theme like color. And remember, it’s all in the details!

i did something similar with cupcakes a couple weeks ago!! i used the medium sized label and customized them with an initial and happy birthday message!! sooo cute!
