Our Meet the Maker this month is Jordan Jones of Packed Party. This exciting company has made its way into Paper Source stores, and we are thrilled to carry some exclusive Packed Party llama pouches, duffel bags and disco tumblers! We chatted with the founder, Jordan, about how she started the company, where she gets her inspiration, and what happens with all of that confetti!
Where are you from?
I was born and raised in Plano Texas and then moved to Chicago when I was in 6th grade. I like to say I’m a half breed midwestern/southern girl.
Where did you go to school?
I went to Oklahoma State University.
How did you start your company?
I started the company in 2013 after I literally had a dream about sending myself a physical pity party package. I was 23 years old and I had just moved to San Francisco – I didn’t know a soul and I had called my mom that day about being lonely and she told me I’m having a pity party for myself and to just go to sleep. I woke up from the dream in the middle of the night and had this realization of the company I wanted to start, so I wrote a business plan right then and there. I was so excited about the idea of sending themed party for 1 packages to yourself!
We started with 5 different packages and began sharing on social media. The brand then grew into more of a lifestyle/gifting brand that was about making life a party with our products and celebrating the little things (whether it’s a breakup or a birthday.) From there, we made our doorstep necklace and then expanded into the drink-ware space with our disco tumblers. We were getting really big so we started to wholesale our products since there was more of a demand at a retail level.
What inspires you?
When I was living in San Francisco, I loved the colors of the city and all of the doorsteps there. Our doorstep necklace originated because of my inspiration from the San Francisco doorsteps, and that’s where our packages arrive – the party starts at your doorstep! Inspiration is everywhere for me. It can come to me at really random moments and I try to look at things through different lenses.
What advice do you have for young women wanting to start their own company?
Be really passionate about what it is that you’re doing. If you have a vision, that’s great, but passion and persistence will take you so much further because it’s not all glamorous. There are hard days when you have your own business, but if you love what you’re doing, you’ll be the best in the game and be really confident that no one can execute your vision better than you can. Be super bold and jump in. Jump all the way in. As soon as you believe in it, other people will believe in it too.
What’s the biggest challenge you have working for yourself?
Sometimes it can be really lonely as an entrepreneur – when you have all of these ideas, you’re on a little bit of an island with your own product. You have to be your own cheerleader sometimes and pick yourself up – you have to be the motivator every day, come in and be a positive leader to the people around you. Self motivating is hard!
What’s your favorite product in the Paper Source Packed Party collection?
It’s a tie. I love the stadium cross body bag because you have to bring a Ziploc bag into concerts and sporting events now, and there’s all these girls stuffing these into their pockets, so we created a beautiful solution for it!
And the llama duffel – it’s just the cutest!
How much confetti do you have to clean up on a daily basis?
It’s a mixture between confetti and dog hair because theres a few party pups in our office. We have broken 2 vacuums with confetti and glitter – a lot of confetti needs to be cleaned up.
What can we look forward to seeing from Packed Party?
We’re going to continue to grow and expand what it means to make life a party with our products – more drink-ware more travel-ware, smaller giftables and definitely more paper products too!
