As we head into the spring season and approach Mother’s Day, we wanted to feature one of our favorite mom bosses. Ebony Snow Hurr is the founder and creative director of Snow & Graham, a company that has long been a staple at Paper Source with their beautiful line of papers, stationery and calendars. Born into a family of artist and entrepreneurs starting her own business was seemingly inevitable. Over the past 20 years, Ebony has nurtured her brand and her family of three boys with a creative and industrious spirit. We chatted with Ebony about what it’s like to be a working mom, inspiration from generations before her and her favorite mom moments.

On Being a Working Mom:

“It can be difficult to manage the working mom guilt. I like to find little ways to let the boys know they are always on my mind. When I travel for work they can always count on Mommy Mail – little notes that I hide around the house or that are given to them each day with reminders, little doodles or knock knock jokes.

Years ago, I found a little toy cow in my purse when I was on a trip to NYC for the Stationery Show. I started taking pictures of the cow in funny places (on top of my hamburger, perched on my pillow) and sending them to my boys. Now they give me a different little figure to take on each trip.”

On Her Favorite Mom Memories:

“I come from a long line of creative and industrious women. When I was little, my mom worked as an art director in advertising. I was often picked up from school and whisked off to photo shoots or back to her office where I would be let loose in the art department. Spending time in collaborative, creative spaces was a huge influence on my journey as an artist and a business owner.

My grandmother made everything from scratch. Later in life, she became an avid swimmer and started making her own bathing suits when store-bought ones didn’t last long enough for her liking. I always wanted to learn to sew, and try as she may to teach me, I never really picked it up. She did however teach me to love art museums, long road trips and how to bake delicious cakes.”

On Her Favorite Mother’s Day Gift:

“In kindergarten, my middle son made a card in class that included a questionnaire. Of the eight or so questions, three of his answers had to do with my making pancakes. I love to make pancakes and especially love that my boys like them so much. Any gift that shows a true appreciation of someone’s talents or passions is the perfect gift.”
