For most people, the first day of October marks the beginning of autumn. Whether or not the weather agrees, we grab our sweaters and collect all-things pumpkin spice. Halloween decorations pop up overnight. If you love autumnal decorations but hate the mess of carving out pumpkins, we have four easy and creative alternatives. All you need are a few supplies and you can make unique decorations to impress your neighbors.

DIY Kit Pumpkin

  1. Clean any dirt or debris off your pumpkin.
  2. Open the Grateful Hearts Fall Wreath Kit and punch out the flowers you want and group them by size.
  3. Put together the flowers according to the instructions provided in the kit and set them off to the side.
  4. Group the leaves on the stem to cover it. Use the tape to attach the leaves together.
  5. Use foam squares to adhere the leaves and flowers to your pumpkin.

Glitter Pumpkin

  1. Clean any dirt or debris off your pumpkin.
  2. Place paper underneath your workspace to make clean up easy.
  3. If you are using multiple shades of glitter pour the glitter on a sheet of scrap paper to mix it evenly.
  4. Use the paintbrush to paint a thin, even layer of glue on a section of the pumpkin.
  5. Use the paper with the mixed glitter to pour the glitter onto your pumpkin.
  6. Continue gluing and pouring glitter until it is covered to your liking.
  7. Tap off any excess glitter in the trash.

Washi Tape Pumpkin

  1. Clean any dirt or debris off your pumpkin.
  2. Apply the washi tape to your pumpkin reaching from the stem to the bottom.
  3. Keep adding tape to cover as much as you like. You may need to cut strange lengths of tape to cover the entire surface.

Hand-lettered Pumpkin

  1. Clean any dirt or debris off your pumpkin.
  2. Choose a base coat color and use the foam brush to paint a base coat. If you do not want any of the orange to be seen through the paint you will have to do a couple coats.
  3. Choose the smoothest side for your lettering.
  4. Use a pencil to create a light outline of your lettering.
  5. Use the black brush pen to letter with the message of your choice.
  6. Clean up any details with the small detail brush in the base coat color.
  7. Tie the black ribbon around the stem to create a bow.

Mix and match these ideas on your pumpkins. You could make one of each design or cover all of your pumpkins in glitter. Have fun with your decorating!
