When my friend’s baby Maisy arrived, she wanted to create a more unique baby announcement since this was her second child. We decided to get crafty and involve her older son in the process.

We started by having Hayden color some white paper with all different colored markers and then used his drawing with this flag hole punch to create a bunting flag banner for the top of the announcement and wrote “Baby” on it in pink.

Since I’m obsessed with sharing birth stories through my podcast, I thought it would be fun for her to give a brief description of what the birth was like within the announcement because everyone always asks how the birth went anyways.

So she typed up a mini birth story and a little bit about how the family is adjusting and what big brother thought of his new baby sister! We printed out the text and used double sided tape to attach it to the gold paper.

We created little headings out of alphabet stamps and mint colored paper for the words “birth” and “stats” and plain white paper for Maisy Ann’s name. My friend’s son loved helping with the stamping as well and we made sure to do each letter on it’s own individual piece of paper so it wasn’t a big deal if we messed up a couple (or twenty!) times.

Finally, we taped all of the pieces together with the double sided tape as well as some cute gold and floral washi tape and used a string for the flag pennant to give it an extra crafty touch.

Each announcement took about 15 minutes to make so we ended up just making them as special gifts for close family and friends. We used these stiff large envelopes to mail them so they didn’t have to squished.

These out-of-the-norm baby announcements were a huge hit with the grandparents (several of them even got framed and hung on the wall!) and my friend’s son had a blast being involved in the project.
