Maker Feature

Gay Lam

Founder and Creative Director of Seltzer Goods

May is Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month. We are the brand we are today because of contributions from individuals in the AAPI community across all aspects of our experience. We feel gratitude for the makers and designers who influence our product, the employees who are our backbone and the customers who support us every day! Our monthly maker feature is the perfect place to feature one of those individuals, Gay Lam, Founder and Creative Director of Seltzer Goods.

Seltzer Goods is a women-led company that values creativity, curiosity, and laughter. They are makers and merchants of cheerful goods including greeting cards and gifts. The team at Seltzer Goods collaborates with multiple artists to create beautiful, witty, empowering products. In addition to building a creative community, Gay makes a point to prioritize sustainability: "As a creator of products, it’s really important to make items long-lasting or sustainable in some way. It’s about the environment and also about doing your best work as a company. We use a litho printer that is zero carbon and has very high environmental standards. The paper is FSC-certified and 100% post-consumer recycled, custom made for us in the USA. Our customers care about the environment, and we care about the environment, because having a future matters."

Gay shared with us some thoughts on inspiration and how her heritage influences the brand: “At Seltzer, we're constantly designing new things. I love to blend ideas and get inspiration from many places. Part of my personal story is living with many cultures within one family. My parents are from China, my siblings from Hong Kong, and I was born in California. So you'll always see an eclectic range of elements in the designs we create."

Grow Your Gratitude

Many spring celebrations, like Mother's Day, Graduation and Father's Day, have us thinking about all the individuals that played a role in who and where we are today. With that in mind, we are focused on showing our gratitude with handwritten notes. Sometimes it's hard to decide where to begin when the blank card is in front of you. Rules of thumb: make it specific, make it personal and always tell them you are grateful. If you need a little jump start try one of these prompts to get the words flowing!

Pick a specific memory to reflect on as a starting point: "I'll never forget the day you told me..."

Focus on how they made a difference in your life: "Because you advocated for me, I was able to..."

Describe a way that they inspire you: "What inspires me most about you is..."

Tell them how they make you feel: "Your presence and words of encouragement make me feel..."

Spring showers are upon us, and we are not talking about the rain. Whether you are planning a baby shower, bridal shower, or just want to throw a spring fête for your friends, there are a lot of details to think about. If you are looking for a starting point when designing your event, one approach we recommend it is to begin with the invitation artwork and build from there. Once you've defined your style, it's easy to coordinate the décor and favors!

May is Mental Health Awareness Month

The last few years have been a difficult period for everyone. 40 million people in the US struggle with anxiety disorders. Almost half of all adults have a diagnosable mental health condition at some point in their lives, but many never receive treatment. At the same time, an increasing number of people are starting to see mental health for what it truly is: a vital component of your overall health and well‑being.

With mental health entering more and more of our daily conversations, it’s important that we are equipped with the knowledge and language we need to have meaningful conversations and take action when needed. That’s why this May, we join our partner Therapy Notebooks, creator of the Anti-Anxiety Notebook, and Mental Health America (MHA) to be a part of the conversation. Throughout the month of May, they will be sharing knowledge about mental health & mental health conditions and giving people the real, tangible resources for support.

Check out the resources below and follow #BackToBasics #MentalHealthIRL to join in the conversation.

Being Paper Source means we are constantly looking for innovations in the paper making process. See how sustainability practices live within our ecosystem of paper.

Starting at Home

The foundation for all our great products is paper. The majority of our paper – the base for wrap, cards & stationery, stickers and more – is created domestically, which means it doesn’t travel the world to get to you!

Working Together with Responsible Mills & Printers

Our paper is produced with certified mills who practice responsible, sustainable forestry. Our products are often created with post-consumer fiber, renewable energy sources or renewable plant-based materials.

Using Our Paper Wisely

Eco-White, made of 100% recycled content with 30% PCW (post-consumer waste), is the base for all our printed stationery, wrap and more.

Providing a Recycled Line

Our line of exclusive solid colors is made with at least 30% PCW. Our Luxe and Savoy papers are also made with a mix of recycled content and/or cotton, a renewable resource.

Packing with Care

We have redesigned our packaging materials to reduce the amount of corrugate and plastic we use. We continue to look for ways to reduce our footprint through our supply chain.
