A Familiar Tale Told Anew

"Stephen King's words framed by Maurice Sendak's art? Of course it's 5-stars! King explains in an author's note that he was invited to write the text based on Sendak's art for the opera version of Hansel and Gretel. King modernized the language, changed a tad of the original tale, and gives us this satisfying new version of the classic."

A Great Gift for Grown-Up Fans of King and Sendak

"A gorgeous collector’s book for fans of Stephen King and/or Maurice Sendak. While technically a picture book, this book will be enjoyed more by adults. With illustrations that Sendak made for set and costume designs for an opera back in the 1990’s, the artwork sometimes feels like a placeholder and may not hold the attention of kids. But the combination of King and Sendak is an enormous treat for adult readers."

I am a true Stephen King fan!

"Stephen King was asked to rewrite and adapt the classic Grimm's fairy tale to the pictures drawn by Sendak years ago for an opera. It is an interesting collaboration that is really not for little ones to hear at bedtime, although it does have a happier ending than the supposed original. I guess the fact that I purchased this book even though I do not have little ones in my family shows that I am a true Stephen King fan!"

Creepy yet nostalgic

"I'm a huge fan of everything Maurice Sendak (Where the Wild Things Are, Little Bear, Chicken Soup with Rice, etc). And now combined with Stephen King's love for creepy storytelling, it made for such a fun picture book. Great gift for adults looking to give a kid their first Maurice Sendak picture book. A great addition to the collection!"

Thie is a Dark Tower Adjacent Story.

"I don’t want to spoil the connection, but if you’re a Dark Tower obsessed freak, like myself, this has a tie-in that you’ll discover for yourself as you read King’s text. Highly recommended for DT obsessed folk."
